HBO Gives Greenlight to Issa Rae Comedy 'Insecure'

Issa Rae is one step closer to making the leap from laptop to television

The YouTube star, who has garnered 20 million views and developed a following 180,000 subscribers strong through her award-winning web series “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl,” has received a pilot order from HBO for a half-hour comedy called “Insecure.” The show will focus on the confusion, frustration, and anger experienced by a black female nerd navigating the dating world. 

The initial episode will be co-written by Rae and “The Nightly Show” host Larry Wilmore. If picked up by the network, “Insecure” will be executive produced by Wilmore and co-exec produced by Rae.
