Jessica Williams Takes Herself Out of Contention as 'Daily Show' Host: "Thank You But I Am Extremely Under-Qualified for the Job!"

Despite a  social media blitz to vault her name to the top of the list of successors for exiting Job Stewart, as host of Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show,” cast member Jessica Williams took to Twitter to dampen any enthusiasm and rumors of her being the likely candidate for the job.

A clip release from the upcoming movie, “Hot Tub Time Machine 2,” which coincided with the news of Stewart’s exiting as host of “The Daily Show,” only helped the further speculation that Ms Williams would be his replacement. In the clip, the movie’s main characters (as played by Adam Scott, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke) time travel to the year 2025, as they look up at a TV screen and realize that Jon Stewart is no longer host of “The Daily Show.” Instead, hosting the Comedy Central series is Jessica Williams! You can watch the clip at the bottom of this post.

And in response to the hubbub, Williams replied via Twitter as follows:

At least, she’s humble, has a sense of humor about it all, and is self-aware enough to know what she’s ready and not ready for. Better to be prepared and well-suited for a gig, instead of diving into it, only to fail. I am surprised though, that she was this candid and public about it. It wasn’t expected.

Recall Williams was hired as the show’s very first African American female correspondent, in 2012, and is still very much a regular.
