‘Myrna the Monster,’ A Short Film at Sundance

'Myrna the Monster,' A Short Film at Sundance

This is a great treat.

I laughed a lot.

There’s this monster, see, but ‘she’ is really cute (as a petit monster) but a bit depressed as she has been rather violently kidnapped from some alien
planet somewhere by this violent astronaut and her loving boy friend monster (looks like her) is killed.

So the film then is the story of a heartbroken alien dreamer from weird planet somewhere who transitions into young adult life in Los Angeles just like any
other twenty-something.

She does her laundry, is in therapy and somehow relates to crazy humans, all of whom, are as lonely and displaced as she is.

I sat there watching this one with my mouth open in surprise and enjoyed every minute and was sad to see it end.

Very original, touching and funny as hell. Alien – yes! But it is also the lonely weird LA I know.
