Last year, “The Simpsons” ran on FXX in the wrong aspect ratio (16:9 instead of the original 4:3), and many fans (us included) weren’t too happy about it. We felt that the show should be viewed as its creators intended, and that the 16:9 thing violated the whole “all ‘Simpsons’ uncut” thing FXX had prided itself on. FXX claimed the episodes would be on its Simpsons World app soon enough, but for months the only option has been stretched “Simpsons.”
Last night, however, “Simpsons” showrunner Al Jean made a much-awaited announcement on Twitter:

The show’s first seven seasons are now playing online in their original format, with more to come. iPad and other app users might have to wait a little while longer for the changes to take hold, as FX’s President of Program Strategy Chuck Saftler said that “the fastest way to push it out to everyone at start was web,” but it’s coming soon. And now, I’m off to marathon a few seasons.
