Here’s a sneak peek (via 4 clips) at an all-new dramedy series premiering on TV One this summer, as the network continues to make strides towards a lineup that includes more original scripted programming, if only to remain competitive in a very competitive space, where original scripted content is king, as more networks are seemingly saying goodbye to an era dominated by reality TV series, and welcoming a shift towards scripted programming. Even non-traditional networks like Netflix and Amazon are spending oodles of money on shoring up their offerings. Great for the consumer!
TV One aired a sneak peek the new dramedy series titled “Born Again Virgin” (I really don’t care for that title) last, Friday, February 6, at 11pm EST. Did you watch? If so, your thoughts?
It’s a planned 30-minute series set in the fast-paced Atlanta, that explores the love lives of three 30-something best friends: Jenna, a vlogger who decides to become celibate after a stream of unsuccessful dates and hook-ups leave her wanting more. She decides to document her newly adapted sex-fast and share the “sexcapades” of her girlfriends – Kelly and Tara. Each week, the ladies will comically work through their friendship, dating woes and career challenges.
Here’s a longer description: “Jenna, a 34 year-old up-and-coming blogger, decides to become celibate when she finds her body count is starting to trump her age. Using her blog as encouragement for her newly adapted sex diet and also as a sounding board for her girlfriends’ often amusing “sexcapades,” Jenna is determined to make the blog a success and transform her friends in the process. Jenna’s BFF & roommate Kelly, an image brand consultant/publicist, is known equally for her success and ratchet taste in men. Her ‘sophista-ratchetness’ tends to get the best of her, as she is constantly stepping down the career ladder to rescue a struggling man. Fortunately, as the product of a single parent home, Kelly knows the importance of letting nothing get in the way of her success. Sleeping rent-free on Kelly & Jenna’s couch is, Tara, Kelly’s ultra-needy client. Tara is a prime example of how the millennial generation sees themselves. She wants to be famous and will stop at nothing to get there- -except get a real job. Tara is very attractive and would rather spend time between acting gigs finding her next suitor of the month to pay her bills. And just as Jenna is settling into her new found virginity, in comes her new fine-as-wine neighbor Donovan. Single, successful and interested will he be the one that Jenna breaks her vow for?”
Danielle Nicolet, Gabrielle Dennis, and Eva Marcille star as the 3 best friends. And R&B singer Tank plays Donovan.
