When we last interviewed Jessica Chastain in December during her press tour for “A Most Violent Year,” the actress gleefully teased, “Wait until you see ‘Crimson Peak.” Now, thanks to the highly anticipated horror film’s debut trailer, we finally have our first look at its gothic artistry and chilling supernatural suspense.
Following the effects heavy bombast of “Pacific Rim,” “Peak” finds visionary director Guillermo del Toro back in dark, gothic fairytale mode. The haunted house pic stars Mia Wasikowska as an aspiring author torn between the love for her childhood friend (Charlie Hunnam) and the temptation for a mysterious outsider (Tom Hiddleston). Trying to escape the ghosts of her tragic past, she gets swept away to a house where things aren’t all as they seem.
Co-starring Chastain in a devilish role we haven’t seen her tackle yet, the film opens nationwide October 16. Although we have months to go before we can judge whether or not the film is del Toro’s “ultimate masterpiece,” as the trailer so boldly proclaims, you can check out the first trailer for the film below:
