No one’s ever going to accuse “Game of Thrones” of being short on content, but two newly-released deleted scenes from the fourth season (posted below) feature some terrific character moments that sadly got lost in the shuffle.
The first takes place in the aftermath of Tyrion and Shae’s dissolution, as the latter races outside in tears before being stopped by Tyrion’s right-hand man, Bronn. “These people, even the good ones, they use us as they please,” he tells a weepy Shae. “And when we’re no longer any use, they spit us out.” It’s a surprisingly intimate moment for a pair of tertiary characters in HBO’s fantasy epic, and it examines a major fourth season event through an intriguing, alternate perspective.
In another post-breakup scene that didn’t make the final cut, Daenerys is comforted by Missandei after cutting ties with Jorah Mormont. On her balcony and overlooking the night-time Westeros landscape, Dany’s single line of dialogue speaks volumes: “Never betray me.”
The action-packed fourth season understandably didn’t have room for everything, but it’s refreshing to see these often-detached characters demonstrate a little vulnerability. Watch the full deleted scenes below:
