Damien Chazelle’s film “Whiplash,” which he wrote and directed, was up for Best Picture, among other nominations, at Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony. It went on to win three out of the five for which it was nominated: Best Supporting Actor, J.K. Simmons; Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. “Whiplash” was the little engine that could in this year’s Oscar race, and Chazelle was the mastermind behind it all.
The film revolves around an aspiring young drummer willing to do whatever it takes to be the best. Similarly, Chazelle himself is on his way to being one of the best in his industry as well. AOL thinks so, too, which is why he’s the subject of an episode of their new new original series “Inspired.”
“Inspired” is a 10-episode series composed of eye-opening interviews and footage that gets to the heart of what motivates well-known icons and up-and-coming sensations, such as gold medal-winning skier Bode Miller and “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter. The series will air in two 5-episode groups, the first brought to you by Disney, the second by Discover.
Chazelle’s episode is set to air March 4, but Indiewire has two exclusive clips below. Give them a watch to discover what inspires and pushes the filmmaker forward. For more information on AOL’s original series, “Inspired,” check out their site.
