Mr. Sam Smith, the Brit radio-hit crooner who possessed the charts and a lot of hearts over the course of 2014, and is vying for 6 Grammy Awards this upcoming Sunday, released a music video this morning for the poignant ballad “Lay Me Down.”
The church-set video, directed by Ryan Hope, opens in the midst of a candlelit funeral and eclipses, as the camera soars over the crowd like a ghost in single-shot “Birdman”-style, into a glorious gay marriage. Smith preluded the emotionally engulfing video with this message from his Instagram account:
