On the heels of last night’s news that he’s replacing Jamie Foxx in Harmony Korine’s revenge thriller “The Trap,” Idris Elba is said to be in early talks to play the villain in the next “Star Trek” movie (the 3rd one), according to Variety.
No word yet on who this villain will be – but “Star Trek” universe experts can feel free to speculate, based on the history of the franchise. Maybe he’ll be a Klingon, meaning he’ll be underneath lots of makeup and prosthetics.
Justin Lin is directing this 3rd film, with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg (who is co-writing the script along with Doug Jung), Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin all returning to reprise their respective roles.
J.J. Abrams will produce, with production set to start in June.
Elba is certainly busy these days, with a film adaptation of author Marc Olden’s 1978 thriller “Poe Must Die,” the Paris-set thriller ‘Bastille Day,’ Korine’s revenge thriller “The Trap,” another season of “Luther,” and more (including his musical and other TV interests), all on the way.
