‘Orange Is The New Black’ Competing as a Drama at the Emmys

'Orange Is The New Black' Competing as a Drama at the Emmys

The Emmy Award hopes for “Orange Is The New Black” and its cast were dealt a serious blow today, as the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced it would reject the series’ petition to compete as a comedy.  This is due to new rules that automatically places hour long series in the drama categories and half hour series in comedy — unless you can successfully petition otherwise. “Shameless,” “Glee” and “Jane The Virgin” all did so, but the Emmys decided to not throw a bone Taylor Schilling and company’s way. Which leaves “Orange” to fend off the likes of “Mad Men,” “Empire,” “Better Call Saul,” “House of Cards,” “Downton Abbey,” “The Affair” and “Game of Thrones.” It could still make the cut, but it’s a whole lot less likely, as are the chances for its cast…
