‘Transparent,’ ‘The Imitation Game’ and ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ Lead GLAAD Media Awards

'Transparent,' 'The Imitation Game' and 'How To Get Away With Murder' Lead GLAAD Media Awards

The first of two ceremonies handing out GLAAD Media Awards went down in Los Angeles this weekend, and one of the big winners was… questionable. We can’t deny “Transparent” worthy of its Best Comedy Series win in a beautifully stacked category that included “Looking,” “Please Like Me” and “Vicious.” And while “How To Get Away With Murder” isn’t exactly groundbreaking LGBT content, its Best Drama Series win (in a much less competitive category than comedy) was fair enough. But “The Imitation Game” for Best Film? We’ve long ago gone over our issues with that film on here, but even with that aside, it’s just a shame that GLAAD couldn’t have used the opportunity to reward “Love is Strange,” “Pride” or “The Skeleton Twins.” All lovely films that didn’t get the attention they deserved this awards season, they’re also all considerably better films than “The Imitation Game.”

Here are all the other winners:

Outstanding Individual Episode: “Identity Crisis”, Drop Dead Diva (Lifetime)
Outstanding TV Movie or Mini-series: The Normal Heart (HBO)
Outstanding Music Artist: Against Me!, Transgender Dysphoria Blues (Xtra Mile Recordings)
Outstanding Daily Drama: Days of Our Lives (NBC)
Outstanding Comic Book: Rat Queens, written by Kurtis J. Wiebe (Image Comics)
Outstanding Digital Journalism Article: “31 Days of PrEP” series (advocate.com)
Outstanding Blog: Autostraddle, autostraddle.com
