Directed by Bill Condon, “Mr. Holmes” follows an aging Sherlock Holmes (Ian McKellen) facing the end of his days in a remote seaside farmhouse. With his only company being his housekeeper (Laura Linney) and her young son, Roger (Milo Parker), Holmes grows to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement.
Although the character of Sherlock Holmes has been explored many times over the years, “Mr. Holmes” appears to be a new take on the world’s most famous detective. From the looks of the trailer, McKellen’s aging Sherlock appears to be losing his memory. This should make for a fresh and interesting take on the character, as Sherlock Holmes’ identity often rests on the sharpness of his mind.
“Mr. Holmes” will open in theaters this summer. Check out the teaser trailer below:
