In “True Story,” James Franco plays an accused murderer who steals the identity of a New York Times reporter, played by Jonah Hill.

That brief description should be enough to at least pique anyone’s interest, especially since the Rupert Goold-directed film earned strong reviews out of its premiere at Sundance and also co-stars Oscar nominee Felicity Jones in a meaty role.

In a newly-acquired clip (posted above), Franco’s killer and Hill’s journalist face off for the first time. The scene certainly lives up to what reaction to the film has been thus far: it’s a well-acted, unbearably tense and superbly-filmed sequence.

Also just out is a behind-the-scenes featurette, in which the “True Story” cast and crew delve into the film’s psychological underpinnings. In particular, Franco (true to form) provides a curious, detailed list of reasons as to why he took part in the project.

Watch the clip at the top of this post and the featurette below. “True Story” will be released in the U.S. on April 17.
