‘Force Awakens’ Star Domhnall Gleeson Joins Blacklisted Tom Cruise Project

'Force Awakens' Star Domhnall Gleeson Joins Blacklisted Tom Cruise Project

“Edge of Tomorrow” director Doug Liman will re-team with Tom Cruise on “Mena,” which is now hoping to add rising star Domhnall Gleeson (“Ex Machina”) to its cast.

The 31-year-old Irish actor (son of Brendan) is in talks to star in this film based on Gary Spinelli’s 2014 Black List spec, which Universal dropped $1 million on in 2014. Originally Ron Howard was set to direct. He’s off the project, but his Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer will produce this thriller about TWA pilot Barry Seal, who’s recruited by the CIA “provide reconnaissance on the burgeoning communist threat in Central America. Seal finds himself in charge of one of the biggest covert CIA operations in the history of the U.S., one that spawned the birth of the Medellin cartel and eventually almost brought down the Reagan White House through the Iran Contra scandal,” reports Variety. He was eventually gunned down in Baton Rouge.

Sarah Wright costars in the film. Cross Creek will finance, and co-produce with Universal and Imagine.

Gleeson, meanwhile, not only stars in this year’s “The Force Awakens” but also in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “The Revenant” opposite Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio. That film unveiled exciting footage at CinemaCon, as did “Mena” costar Tom Cruise, who stole the Paramount show with footage from “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.”
