Glendon Palmer Joins IM Global in SVP Role - Will Shepherd Several Projects Including Obama Rom-Com

Glendon Palmer has joined IM Global as the leading producer/financier and international sales agency’s senior vice-president of development and production.

In his new position, the former development and production executive at Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment, as well as an executive at Robert Johnson’s and Tracey Edmonds’ Our Stories Films production company – who also produced 2011’s “Jumping The Broom” – will immediately begin overseeing production of the previously-announced rom-com, “Southside With You,” which is a fictional account of President Obama and the First Lady’s first date, during which the pair attended a screening of Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing.”

Tika Sumpter is attached to star as the younger Michelle Obama, although an actor has yet to be cast to play the younger Barack in a film that will be directed by Richard Tanne – his directorial debut – based on his screenplay. Filming is set to begin this August.

IM Global CEO Stuart Ford, president of production Matt Jackson, Palmer and Tracy Bing will serve as executive producers.

“Tika and I have worked diligently for two years to bring this story to the screen and we couldn’t be more grateful to Stuart Ford for making it happen,” said Tanne. “Between Stuart, Matt, Glendon, JR, Bob, and everyone at IM Global, we are so fortunate to be surrounded by the most supportive and passionate team around.”

Also in his new role at IM Global, Glendon Palmer will oversee: the previously-announced untitled musical romantic drama from John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co; the comedy “Rollin’ Thunder,” which Bille Woodruff (“Beauty Shop,” “Addicted”) is attached to direct, with Nelly and Nick Cannon co-producing. It’s also the first collaboration between Republic Records and IM Global (a multi-picture co-financing and co-production pact was announced a month ago, for a series of music-driven titles); and Antoine Fuqua’s “The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace,” which is based on the novel by Jeff Hobbs.

“Glendon is a hugely talented and popular executive and an important hire for our production division,” said IM Global’s Ford. “There is a sea change happening in how America and the international market view multi-cultural film and television content and it’s entirely within the spirit of IM Global for us to be at the vanguard of this growth.”

“It is an honor to join an entertainment industry leader that is deeply rooted in the international community and equally committed to sharing the voices and faces reflective of our global marketplace through thoughtful storytelling,” Palmer added. “Starting with the just announced titles, I look forward to working to further cement IM Global’s position as preeminent creator of iconic multi-cultural films.”
