A critical smash, one of the best per-screen averages for a horror film since “Paranormal Activity,” and a sensation that has managed to ride buzz since it premiered at Cannes in 2014, hits like “It Follows” don’t come along every day. And naturally, distributors Radius-TWC want to keep a good thing going — yes, they are thinking of a sequel.
“I don’t want to give away too much, but we’ve thought about it,” the company’s co-president Tom Quinn told EW. What would it be about? Well, apparently ideas are already being tossed around, but he serves up this tease: “Flip the title. There’s so much you could do.”
So, “Follow It“? Sounds like an interesting reversal and certainly one that could work, bringing a fresh approach instead of just going over familiar ground. But the key, of course, is writer/director David Robert Mitchell, who isn’t opposed to it, and in fact has some ideas he couldn’t use the first time around that he could bring back.
“…I don’t know that a sequel would be the next thing that I would do, but I’m certainly open to it. I just kinda want to see how things play out,” he told Vulture. “But I do want to say that when I wrote this, I had some bigger setpieces, a few things that I sort of simplified, and some stuff that we chose to cut out because of the budget and time, so there’s all kinds of fun things that could be done with this concept and story.”
So, is “It Follows” a little horror gem that should be left alone, or is there room to grow? Let us know below.
