READ MORE: Meet the 2015 Sundance Filmmakers #76: Kim Farrant is Compelled to Get to the Raw Truth in ‘Strangerland’
“Strangerland” follows a grieving couple (Nicole Kidman and Joseph Fiennes) whose teenage children go missing after a massive dust storm in a remote, Australian desert town. As the town is led by a local cop (Hugo Weaving) on a search for the missing kids, the family’s secrets begin to unravel. Rumors and suspicions spread as people begin to turn on one another. With time running out, they are pushed to the edge as they struggle to cope with the terrifying uncertainty of their childrens’ fate.
In the trailer above, Nicole Kidman screams in a desperate search for her daughter. While it doesn’t give away any hints as to the secrets of the family, we do see some of the tension building between Kidman and Fiennes as they grow more and more desperate to find their kids. The score, composed by Keefus Ciancia (“True Detective”), is especially successful in adding an extra layer of mystery and tension in this trailer.
“Strangerland” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and will be released in theaters and on demand on July 10.
