Between December 2007 and January 2012, 79 suicides were reported in Bridgend County in Wales. Most were teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 who were found dead by hanging, leaving no suicide note.
In Danish filmmaker Jeppe Rønde’s new film “Bridgend,” Sara (Hannah Murray) and her father Dave (Steven Waddington) arrive in a small town in the county where Sara falls in love with Jamie, while Dave, as the town’s new policeman, tries to solve the mystery of the suicides.
Rønde, a documentary filmmaker, followed the teenagers from the area for six years, transforming their stories into his fictional film debut.
“Bridgend” will make its North American premiere during the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival.
