Watch Taraji P. Henson Dish Out Advice Cookie-Style in 'Saturday Night Live' Promos

Riding probably higher than she’s even been since entering the business many years ago, on the groundbreaking success of Fox’s hit series “Empire,” Taraji P. Henson will make her “Saturday Night Live” hosting debut this weekend, April 11, 2015!

Mumford & Sons will be the show’s musical guest – their second time.

One can only assume that there’ll be an “Empire” sketch during the episode, with Henson playing the character she plays on the show – the inimitable, always quotable Cookie Lyon; a role that’s pushed Henson into a spotlight she really hasn’t enjoyed until now. We can only hope it leads to even more work down the road for her – preferably diverse roles, and that she doesn’t get boxed into playing “Cookie” in everything she’s cast in from here on.

It’s a very rare occurrence when a black woman has hosted “Saturday Night Live.” Since the show began in the mid-1970’s, there has been Kerry Washington, Queen Latifah, Gabourey Sidibe, Cicely Tyson, Janet Jackson, Halle Berry, Maya Rudolph, and Oprah. Just 8 of them in about 40 years.
