As the Cannes market opens for business, Film House Germany’s Egoli Tossell has tapped Leveaux to helm “The Kaiser’s Last Kiss” starring Lily James (“Cinderella,” “Downton Abbey”) and Oscar-winner Christopher Plummer.
Written by Simon Burke and based on the novel by Alan Judd, the film will pivot on the 1940 invasion of Holland that brings the Nazis face to face with their former monarch, Kaiser Wilhelm, who was exiled to the Netherlands in 1917.
In an effort to thwart the Nazis, the Dutch resistance work covertly with Winston Churchill in inserting an agent into the Kaiser’s household. A lethally dangerous love affair ignites between a German officer and a young Jewish Dutch woman with consequences that neither they nor the Kaiser himself could have foreseen.
“The Kaiser’s Last Kiss” is an Egoli Tossell Film and Ostar Enterprises production. Judy Tossell and Lou Pitt are producing and Bill Haber and Phil Geier are executive producing. Lotus Entertainment will be showing the project to foreign buyers starting at Cannes.
Plummer will soon be seen in Atom Egoyan’s “Remember.” Meanwhile, young Lily James’ career is taking off, thanks to Disney’s 2015 smash success “Cinderella.”
