Actors turning directors tend to face an extra level of scrutiny, and as Ryan Gosling learned last year with his own “Lost River,” the knives are especially sharpened for any thespian who dares to bring their debut project to the hallowed ground at Cannes. But Natalie Portman will brave the slings and arrows as such when she unspools her feature directorial debut “A Tale Of Love And Darkness” and the first clip has arrived.
She stars along with Gilad Kahana and Amir Tessler in an adaptation of Amos Oz‘s bestseller, which tells the story of his youth and his relationship with his mother as it overlaps with the early years of the formation of the State of Israel. In the clip, Portman tells a parable to the young writer.
