Who would’ve thought, even after the amazing first trailer was released, that not only would George Miller’s return to the wasteland (and live-action filmmaking), “Mad Max: Fury Road,” be the most highly regarded and heavily praised blockbuster of the year but also be one of the better reviewed films of the year (at least so far), period. With everyone’s favorite film heading into its second weekend at the box office, let’s keep this love train rolling by taking a peek at the first of “Fury Road” comic book prelude series.
It’s widely known now that with “Fury Road” being delayed for so long, Miller and his writers Brendan McCarthy and Nick Lathouris were able to devise backstories for every character of their slick and efficient film, even if it was something that wouldn’t be discussed or even seen on screen. Fortunately for fans of the film, DC’s Vertigo imprint will be publishing a series of “preludes” to film that focus on different characters, the first of which focuses on Immortan Joe and Nux.
Intriguingly, Joe is referred to as a military “veteran of the oil wars [and] hero of the water wars” whereas Nux “knows only the chaos into which he was born.” Yesterday, the the first few pages of the comic were shared online, which boasts artwork from Leandro Fernandez and Riccardo Burchielli, along with cover art from Tommy Lee Edwards. The story, meanwhile, is credited to Mark Sexton, Miller & Lathouris.
Check out the artwork below and order the comic through either Vertigo directly, Amazon or your local comic book store. And hell, why not go back to the theater and watch “Mad Max: Fury Road” for the 15th time while it’s still in theaters.
