That the musical goofballs The Lonely Island — Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer — should take their penchant for hilarious songs coupled with equally hilarious videos, and bring it to the big screen makes total sense. Judd Apatow is helping make it happen by producing the movie, and while efforts were made to keep the details secret, now that cameras are rolling, a lot more is leaking out about the picture.
First off, Sarah Silverman, Imogen Poots, and Tim Meadows have joined the movie, which now has a title — “Conner4real.” Penned by The Lonely Island, with Taccone and Shaffer directing, it tells the story of a rapper who gets back together with his old boy band after his latest album bombs. The movie will use that premise to poke fun at recent music docs like “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” and “Katy Perry: Part Of Me,” and it’s pretty ripe ground for these guys to play with, so we’re eager to see how it unfolds.
As for the new actors, Meadows will play the rapper’s manager, with Silverman as his publicist and Poots as his love interest. No word yet on a release date, but you can pretty much assume this will drop in 2016. [Deadline/The Wrap]
