When you think of NBC’s ‘Hannibal,’ what songs come to mind? Hint: it’s probably something along the lines of a classical orchestral piece, as opposed to classic rock. The new trailer for Season 3 of Bryan Fuller’s critically-acclaimed series, however, is playing fast and loose with our expectations by placing The Turtle’s 1967 hit “Happy Together” to kick off the spot.
It’s an interesting choice for the show to focus so much of its attention on the relationship between Hannibal and Bedelia, who fled the country together after the bloodbath in the Season 2 finale. The trailer shows Hannibal and his therapist (Gillian Anderson, now a series regular) hosting dinners and generally acting like a couple, with classic Lecter-ian lines like, “My wife and I would love to have you for dinner.”
There’s no word on whether the marriage is real or simply a cover story for the two fugitives, but the standoff between the couple at the end of the trailer implies more horrors are coming, regardless of their relationship status.
“Hannibal” Season 3 returns on June 4 at 10pm on NBC.
