Keeping up the myriad twists and turns in the development of the brewing mega-franchise of Stephen King‘s epic “The Dark Tower” series could probably fill a small novella already, but basically, producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard have refused to say quit. They’ve been pushing this boulder uphill for years now seeing the project collapse at Universal and Warner Bros. Now, Sony and Media Rights Capital are combining their powers, and tapped some talent to get this thing going.
Nikolaj Arcel, the writer behind the Noomi Rapace starring “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and the writer/director of the excellent “A Royal Affair,” has been tasked to pen and helm “The Dark Tower.” The plan is still to bring this out as a multi-film series that will be complemented with a TV show. Arcel is apparently a huge fan of King’s series, with the Denmark native even going so far as to learn English, so he could read the books as they were written. And it’s that kind of passion that was part of how he got the gig.
So, solid cog has been found in many more that need to get this thing truly moving, and that includes casting. Do you have suggestions? Let’s hear ’em below. [Deadline]
