Animation Block Party 2015 Summerfest Schedule Announced

New Yorkers – Attention!  The twelfth annual Animation Block Party will commence July 30th – August 2nd, 2015 at Rooftop Films and BAMcinématek. Animation Block Party is the premier animation festival of the East Coast, dedicated to exhibiting all genres of the world’s best independent, professional and student animation.

Here are some of the events in store (go to the ABP website for complete programming information). Mark these dates and times – and go!


Opening Night at Rooftop Films is Presented by Arts Brookfield, Thursday, July 30th at Brookfield Place (formerly the World Financial Center) ground level, along the water between West Street and the Hudson River – 220 Vesey Street, NY, NY, 10281. Doors at 6:30pm. Live Music at 7:45 pm. Films begin at 8:45pm. 


Animation Block Party continues on Friday, July 31th at BAMcinématek located at the Peter Sharp Building, 30 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn, NY 11217 with four different animation programs. The 2pm slot offers Experimental Films, Graphic Design and Music Videos. The 2pm slot offers a screening of Narrative Works, Studio Shorts and Local Films. At 4pm, there will be a screening of Student Films and Independent Animators. The 7pm show features the Best of Eyeworks Animation. At 9:30pm, there will be a 20th Anniversary screening of Ghost in the Shell.

2pm – Narrative Works, Studio Shorts and Local Films

An eclectic program of narrative, studio, and local animated shorts.

4pm – Student Films and Independent Animators

Animation Block Party presents a collection of imaginative films by students and independent animators.

7pm – Best of Eyeworks Animation

Eyeworks is an invitational festival focusing on abstract animation and unconventional character animation. Founded in 2010, Eyeworks is held annually in Chicago, with additional curated programs presented in Chicago and other cities throughout the year. 9:30pm – Ghost in the Shell 20th year anniversary

20th anniversary screening of the hit anime science fiction film based on manga of the same title by Masamune Shirow. The film was written by Kazunori Itō and directed by Mamoru Oshii. A female cyborg cop and her partner hunt a mysterious and powerful hacker called the Puppet Master.

Animation Block Party continues on Saturday, August 1st at BAMcinématek located at the Peter Sharp Building, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11217. ABP Saturday at BAMcinématek four animation programs. The 2pm slot is a special Animation for Kids screening. At 4:30pm, there will be a screening of Pre Code Hollywood cartoons. The 7pm show features International Shorts. At 9pm, there will be a JibJab Showcase.

2pm – Animation for Kids

A fresh collection of the year’s best family-friendly animated shorts gathered from festivals and the major studios.

4:30pm – Tom Stathes Cartoons on Film – Pre Code Hollywood

Animation curator and collector Tom Stathes presents this special screening of ultra rare Pre-Code Hollywood cartoons. Do not miss this!

7pm – International Shorts – Program One

Animation Block Party presents the finest animation from around the world.

9pm – JibJab Anniversary Showcase

Evan and Gregg Spiridellis founded JibJab in a Brooklyn garage nearly sixteen years ago. This summer, Animation Block Party will be presenting an exclusive JibJab Anniversary show at BAMcinématek, featuring everything from Presidential rap battles to “year in review” YouTube hits.

ABP Saturday Night Party at BAM Fisher – 930pm-2am

*participating filmmakers and weekend pass holders only

BAM Fisher located at 321 Ashland Pl, Brooklyn NY 11217. Carnival and arcade style games, streaming videos, ping pong, Brooklyn Brewery beer and much more…


Animation Block Party concludes on Sunday, July 27th at BAMcinématek, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11217. At 2pm, there will be a Sesame Street Retrospective. The 4:30pm show is a 35mm screening of the Care Bears Movie. The 7pm show is a second original program of International Shorts. At 9pm, there will be a screening of Experimental Films, Graphic Design and Music Videos.

2pm – Sesame Slam: A Retrospective on Sesame Street Animations

A look back at Sesame classics paired with modern cartoons from the iconic educational program.

4:30pm – The Care Bears Movie in 35mm

1980’s classic in 35mm. Directed by Arna Selznick. The Care Bears live in a cloud-filled land called Care-a-Lot. Travelling across Earth, the Bears help two lonely children named Kim and Jason find new parents, and also save a young magician’s apprentice named Nicholas from an evil spirit’s influence. Deep within a place called the Forest of Feelings, Kim, Jason, and their friends soon meet another group of creatures, the Care Bear Cousins.

7pm – International Shorts – Program Two

Animation Block Party presents a second collection of stellar international animation shorts.

9pm – Experimental Films, Graphic Design and Music Videos

The year’s most outstanding experimental and design centric animated shorts and music videos.
