Submarine Entertainment has announced it has sold all North American distribution rights of Michael Beach Nichols and Christopher K. Walker’s “Welcome to Leith” to First Run Features, with the exception of U.S. television rights.

“Welcome to Leith” is a documentary chronicling the attempted takeover of Leith, North Dakota by white supremacist Craig Cobb. The film uses a western-thriller style to describe the story of the Leith community’s fight to remove Cobb from the community. It premiered at 2015 Sundance Film Festival and was screened at the SXSW Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival, among others.

“Films like ‘Welcome to Leith’ are few and far between: a carefully crafted, timely and highly provocative documentary with a story that’s so hard to believe that you need to see it with your own eyes,” stated Marc Mauceri of First Run Features. “We look forward to working with Michael and Christopher in bringing their riveting, important work to North American audiences.”

The film will open in theaters later this year with an Academy Award qualifying run. The theatrical release will be followed by DVD, Digital and VOD releases under First Run Features. ITVS’ Independent Lens will premiere “Welcome to Leith” on television in Spring 2016.
