After turning heads with performances into acclaimed genre flicks—last year’s “The Guest” and this year’s “It Follows“—Maika Monroe is on the ascent. She’s currently filming “Independence Day 2,” she’s already wrapped up YA adaptation “The 5th Wave,” and now she’s got a Black List script on her desk.
The actress has joined “Hot Summer Nights” which will also feature her ‘5th Wave’ co-star Alex Roe and Timothee Chalamet, whose name was recently buzzing as a contender for Marvel and Sony‘s Spider-Man. Penned by Elijah Bynum, the story sees a teenager’s life spiral out of control when he befriends the town’s rebel, falls in love, and gets entangled in selling drugs over one summer in Cape Cod.
Bynum will also make his feature directing debut on the movie, with production slated to begin August. So, not only is it “Hot Summer Nights” for Monroe this year, but busy ones too. [Deadline]
