Netflix Saves ‘Degrassi’ With ‘The Next Class’

Netflix Saves 'Degrassi' With 'The Next Class'

Good news, “Degrassi” fans. Just a few days after news that everyone’s favo(u)rite Canadian teen soap would be ending after its 14th season, Netflix has come to the rescue. The streaming service will rename the show “Degrassi: The Next Class” (it was “The Next Generation” previously), and start airing it in 2016.

The “Degrassi” universe was created by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood way back in 1979. This will mark the fifth fictional series in the franchise, following “The Kids of Degrassi Street,” “Degrassi Junior High,” “Degrassi High,” and “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”  It also is more or less the reason the world has Drake (the rapper starred in 138 episodes of the latter series, then going by Aubrey Graham), and has been a pioneering series when it comes to tackling LGBT topics.

Thanks Netflix :)
