Asif Kapadia’s documentary “Amy” captures Amy Winehouse’s spirit by celebrating her immense talent, while acknowledging the very real obstacles she faced with drug addiction and mental illness.

Kapadia’s ability to weave Amy’s story honestly and poignantly, as well as the amount of footage he was able to accumulate and share in his documentary, is what grabbed audience’s attention at Cannes in May.
