Andrew Haigh has been proving his directorial sensitivity in films like “Weekend” and the HBO television series “Looking,” but his next feature film, “45 Years,” looks to be his most accomplished and mature work yet.
Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay play Geoff and Kate Mercer, a married couple celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary. But their union is dramatically shaken when the body of Geoff’s long-dead girlfriend, Katya, who passed away in a tragic accident, is discovered. The event opens up a door to the past that had long been closed.
Rampling and Courtenay won the Silver Bears for acting at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. While the film hits UK theaters this August, no domestic release date has been set.
