Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as the infamous NSA whistleblower, with a top-flight cast including Shailene Woodley, Nicolas Cage, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson and Timothy Olyphant. Unfortunately this tantalizing teaser doesn’t show us anything.
Produced by Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff and Philip Schulz-Deyle, the film’s script by Kieran Fitzgerald (“The Homesman”) and Stone is based on “The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man” by Luke Harding and “Time of the Octopus” by Snowden’s Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena. “Snowden Files” follows the cyber celebrity from Hawaii to Hong Kong, where he brought earth-shattering surveillance intel to filmmaker Laura Poitras and Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald before seeking asylum in Moscow, which is the focus of Kucherena’s thinly fictionalized novel.
The Academy Award-honored creative team includes cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle (“Slumdog Millionaire,” “Antichrist”), production designer Mark Tildesley (“28 Days Later”) and editor Alex Marquez (“Alexander”).
