READ MORE: Sundance: ‘Bachelorette’ Director Leslye Headland on Incredible Sex and Why Directing is a Female Act
Writer-director Leslye Headland first showed a knack for mixing raunchy comedy with emotional heart in her 2012 debut “Bachelorette,” starring Rebel Wilson and Kirsten Dunst. She’s continuing the trend in “Sleeping with Other People,” a rom-com starring Jason Suedikis and Alison Brie that puts a new spin on the phrase “friends with benefits.”
In the movie, Jake (Sudeikis) and Lainey (Brie) have been incapable of holding down a relationship, both finding insatiable needs to sleep with other people. When the two run into each other, they rekindle a flame that started when they lost their virginities to one another during a one night stand back in college. They begin a friendship and swear off sex as to not screw things up, though the relationship obviously proves difficult.
“Sleeping with Other People” also stars Jason Mantzoukas, Amanda Peet, Adam Scott and Natasha Lyone. The comedy had a successful premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
