Those out in the world who don’t follow Patrick Stewart’s career like a hawk (what’s wrong with you?) may have missed the news of his triumphant return to television in “Blunt Talk,” the new series from executive producers Seth MacFarlane and Jonathan Ames that premieres this August on Starz. The series follows Walter Blunt (Stewart), a British newsman who attempts to balance his job as an American cable news talk show host with a highly dysfunctional personal life.
According to the new featurette released today by Starz, Stewart was slightly scandalized by some of his character’s onscreen actions. “In the last 10 weeks I have done things on camera that I would never do in a locked and darkened room when I was entirely alone,” laughed the actor during the video. Stewart, a Shakespearean actor who became a household name for his starring roles in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and the “X-Men” franchise, has lately been delving more into comedy roles with his recent turn in Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted.”
His fellow actors were also impressed by his chops during filming, with costar Adrian Scarborough adding “Patrick Stewart is a phenomenal comedian. He absolutely gets that the more serious you play it, the funnier it becomes.” For more of Stewart’s comedic stylings, check out the video above and catch the premiere of “Blunt Talk” on August 22 at 9pm on Starz.
