Oscar-nominated documentarian Liz Garbus covers the lives and loves of the legendary Nina Simone in her Netflix documentary "What Happened, Miss Simone?" (streaming now), which is also enjoying a limited theatrical run.  

In a podcast interview with Women and Hollywood, Garbus shares some of the details she found most surprising about Simone, like her training to become a classical pianist, her extreme popularity in Europe, and the fact that she wrote the electrifying political anthem "Mississippi Goddam" in just 20 minutes.
