Three LGBT Titles Have Decent Weekends at the Indie Box Office

Three LGBT Titles Have Decent Weekends at the Indie Box Office

It’s not every weekend THREE new LGBT-related titles open in theaters, but this weekend that was indeed the case. Magnolia’s “Tangerine,” IFC Film’s “Do I Sound Gay” and Starz Digital’s “Boulevard” — the latter featuring the final performance of Robin Williams. And all three did pretty good.

“Tangerine” — which, with stunning reviews was definitely the most anticipated of the trio — had the best overall gross and per-theater-average, taking in a strong $64,000 from 4 theaters for a $16,000 average. That was the best average of any limited release and the second best overall behind box office champ “Minions.”

“Do I Sound Gay?” was next, riding its own acclaim to a $11,000 gross from a single NYC theater. “Boulevard” wasn’t far behind, taking in $9,000 from one theater.

It’s all promising news, but as we know — the determination of each film’s success really depends on how they do in the coming weeks as they expand further across the country. So go see them when they hit a theater near you so there will be more weekends in the future with three LGBT releases!
