Anyone that doubted Catilyn Jenner’s capabilities as a public representative for transgender people can officially put their doubts to rest.
A month or so after her ABC interview and subsequent Vanity Fair cover story broke the internet unlike anything even her ex-stepdaughter Kim Kardashian could pull off, Jenner made it clear she had more in her than that. Her speech at the EPSY Awards — receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award — earlier tonight was a graceful, thoughtful call to arms for transgender rights that would surely make Laverne Cox and Janet Mock proud (both of whom she rightfully namechecks).
“If you want to call me names, make jokes, doubt my intentions, go ahead, because the reality is I can take it,” she said. “But for the thousands of kids out there coming to terms with the truth of who they are, they shouldn’t have to take it.”
Caitlyn, you are a marvel and we apologize for ever doubting you.
