The tea leaves are being read for “Fantastic Four,” and it isn’t looking good. While the superhero movie had a brief turnaround in buzz following a successful Comic-Con presentation, 20th Century Fox hasn’t been able to sustain it, and part of that is their own doing. The movie won’t screen for press until next week, with the majority of reviews not arriving until the day before the picture opens. The marketing tactics will be interesting to witness over the next seven days, and it seems the studio will be making some very careful decisions.
The first clip of the movie has arrived and it certainly highlights the more pronounced sci-fi bent of Josh Trank‘s take on the famed superheroes. Meanwhile, a slew of featurettes have also arrived to give more context, while someone on the internet has given the trailer the Roger Corman treatment. Perhaps most interesting of all is a massive, three hour interview with Trank conducted by Kevin Smith, and here’s the thing — that’s only half of it. There are two more parts to go that will be posted next week.
“Fantastic Four” opens on August 7th.
