Depending on where your politics lay, “London Has Fallen” may also be an all too accurate description of the recent election results in the United Kingdom. But it’s also the title of the unlikely sequel of the unlikely hit “Olympus Has Fallen,” the first of the dueling 2013 blockbusters about the White House coming under siege (the other was “White House Down,” which earned more at the box office, but also had double the budget). And the first trailer has arrived for another tale of bad guys, honorable presidents and the people who work for them.
Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Melissa Leo, Radha Mitchell, Robert Forster, Jackie Earle Haley, and Charlotte Riley are among the ensemble for this one which takes the story across the pond. Terrorists seize the opportunity of the British Prime Minister’s funeral to unleash a wave of violence, and it’s up to the good ol’ USA to team with MI-6 and save the day. So, as one would expect from a sequel, there’s a bigger stage with more room to play, but the same formula more or less.
“London Has Fallen” arrives on January 22, 2016.
