“Homeland” came storming back to prominence with a compelling Season 4, and — if a 30-second teaser trailer is any indication — Season 5 looks to keep the momentum going. (And when has a trailer ever steered us wrong?)
At the end of Season 4, Carrie (Claire Danes) and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) weren’t on the best terms. Saul had just made a deal to get him back into the CIA’s good graces, and Carrie didn’t exactly approve. Now, the former mentor and pupil are squaring off as equals, and it’s Saul’s turn to deliver the harsh words.
It was announced back in March that Season 5 would jump two years ahead of where the story left off, be shot in Berlin, and find Carrie in a new career. The latest update from Showtime describes the new season in slightly more detail: “Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the ‘war on terror,’ Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working as the head of security for a German philanthropist.”
“Estranged from the CIA”? “Head of security”? “German philanthropist”? Hmm. That doesn’t sound like the wine-guzzling, pill-popping patriot we’ve all come to know and love. Perhaps Carrie needs Saul’s help after all.
Season 5 returns this fall on Showtime. Watch the teaser trailer above and check out the first official image from below.
