Netflix is set to further bolster its slate with “Narcos,” a new historical drama centered on the ruthless Medellin cartel.
The series comes from José Padilha (“Robocop”), and stars acclaimed Brazilian actor Wagner Moura (“Elite Squad”) as the notorious crime leader Pablo Escobar. The official synopsis reads: “‘Narcos’ chronicles the gripping real-life stories of the infamous drug kingpins of the late 1980s and the corroborative efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. Its gritty storytelling details the many, often-conflicting forces — legal, political, police, military and civilian — that clash in the effort to control cocaine, one of the world’s most valuable commodities.”
The above trailer hints at a violent crime saga with some fascinating character studies. Among the actors set to appear in supporting roles are Luis Guzman (“Boogie Nights”), Pedro Pascal (“Game of Thrones”) and Ana de la Reguera (“Eastbound and Down”).
Check out the trailer. Netflix will release the entire 10-episode season of “Narcos” at once on August 28.
