Will Ferrell seems to be getting even looser and limber these days as far as his comedy goes. It’s as if he’s taken the lark-ish, what-the hell approach from Funny Or Die and applied it to any riff that comes to mind. This year alone he’s made a Lifetime spoof “A Deadly Adoption,” co-starred in a Tennessee Williams-esque generations-spanning saga spoof in “The Spoils Before Dying,” and now has another joke in the can.
Back in March of this year, Will Ferrell made some history; at least in the world of Major League Baseball spring training. He suited up, headed down to Arizona, and played every position on the field for ten different teams all in one day. His frequent flier miles must be off the charts (though in truth, helicopters were a big help).
The day has been distilled down into “Ferrell Takes The Field” an HBO special from Funny Or Die in partnership with Major League Baseball to support the fight against cancer. And the first teaser trailer aired last night right before “True Detective.”
“Was I the best player on the field today? Maybe. Maybe?” he asks in the clip. The synopsis is pretty simple: “Will Ferrell suits up for 10 different baseball teams in one day in a new comedy special.” Will it provide laughs? We hope so. “Ferrell Takes The Field” around the end of baseball season on September 12th at 10pm.
