Laverne Cox stopped by the “The Late Late Show With James Corden” last night and talked about Caitlin Jenner — whom she had just met for the first time a few days prior.
“[It was] pretty awesome,” Cox said of meeting Jenner. “We’d spoken on the phone several times. She called me on the phone the day after her ESPYs speech actually. She’s such a sweet woman, loves her family…I think she’s doing it [i.e. transitioning] very eloquently and beautifully publicly.”
Corden noted that Jenner had mentioned Cox in her ESPYs speech, referring to her as a trailblazer (rightfully so, as far was we’re concerned).
“Well, first of all, I feel way too young to be a trailblazer,” Cox joked. “What I think is so beautiful about this, my visibility and Caitlyn’s visibility, is diverse representations of trans people in the media is so important. When I think about being transitioning in my 20s, as a black transgender woman who was working class and struggling to make it in New York City it’s completely different than Caitlyn’s very public experience.”
