The 37th Aspen Film Festival, running September 25-30, will open with a screening of the much anticipated awards contender “Room,” starring Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, William H. Macy and Joan Allen.
Based on the bestselling novel by Emma Donoghue, the film centers on a mother and son who have been locked in a room as prisoners for multiple years. When they finally get the chance to escape, the triumphant bond between mother and son gives way to an emotional journey about growing up and moving on. The drama will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before playing in Aspen.
“Aspen Film is honored to open our 37th Aspen Filmfest with such an anticipated title,” said Aspen Film Executive Director John Thew. “‘Room’ is sure to set the stage for our forthcoming impressive and diverse program.”
The full Aspen Film Festival program will be announced and available online Tuesday, September 1. “Room” opens nationwide on November 6 after premiering in New York and Los Angeles on October 16.
