The first and last time Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie shared the screen was ten years ago in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Since, they’ve definitely enjoyed some offscreen time together. You know, getting married and having a dozen or so kids and all. But come November, they will reunite in “By The Sea,” which Jolie (going by Angelina Jolie Pitt in the film’s credits) wrote, directed and stars in alongside her husband. And now we have our first look, which makes it seem sort of like “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”… if it had a very different plot, was directed by Luchino Visconti and came out in 1969.
The film follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Melanie Laurent) and François (Melvil Poupaud), and village locals Michel (Niels Arestrup) and Patrice (Richard Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.
