First Look And New Details Emerge For Mia Hansen-Løve's New Film 'The Future' Starring Isabelle Huppert

This summer, you hopefully got to move to the rhythms of Mia Hansen-Løve‘s electronic music scene tribute “Eden,” and for fans of the filmmaker, she’s already at work on her next film. Cameras are currently rolling on “L’avenir” (“The Future“) which has Isabelle Huppert in the lead role, and not only has the first look arrived at the film, but a few new details too.

So far, all that has been known is that the movie would center on a woman in her 50s, but Liberation visited the set and got a few more details noting that “The Future” tells “the story of a woman who, after 50, is struck by a series of misfortunes: her husband has cheated on her, she’s been fired, her mother died… But she won’t let that bring her down.”

It sounds like a great role for Huppert to really dive into, and when we spoke to Hansen-Løve earlier this year, she expanded on the film’s themes. “…it’s a film about a philosophy teacher. It’s a portrait of a woman, basically. It’s a cruel title, because the question the film is asking is if it’s really possible to have a future when you’re 57 and your husband leaves you and your children go away,” she said. “I’m scared of this film. I think it’s a tough issue for me. The film is not dark, but I’m scared because for women —and I usually don’t think of things like “as a woman”— but to be honest, facing how tough it is to be a woman at that age and to be alone really scares me.”

So, we’ll put this on our list of Cannes potentials for 2016 and we’re eager to see the result of what sounds like a unique drama.
