For her third feature film, Angelina Jolie is scaling way back after the ambitious war epics “In the Land of Blood and Honey” and “Unbroken,” while also tackling acting and screenwriting duties. In what she has described as an “art film,” “By the Sea” looks to be an intense character play full of high drama. Jolie stars opposite Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Niels Arestrup, Melvil Poupaud and Richard Bohringer. The drama marks the first time Jolie and Pitt have acted with each other since “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”
The official synopsis reads: “‘By the Sea’ follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Laurent) and François (Poupaud), and village locals Michel (Arestrup) and Patrice (Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.”
“By the Sea” hits theaters November 13. Watch the trailer below, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.
