Watch: Ben Stiller Stars In The First Teaser Trailer For ‘Zoolander 2’

Fantastic comedy sequels are pretty rare, and if history shows anything, it’s that the longer a comedy sequel takes to hit the screen, the more audiences tend to not care. “Gremlins 2” came six years after the original and mostly flopped, “Back To The Future II” was only four years later, but it failed to recreate the same box office magic, and most recently, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” belatedly greeted audiences almost ten years after the fact and failed to gross much more than $125 million domestically. In fact, its so-so box office receipts made us assume that the plans for a “Zoolander” sequel were immediately squashed by Paramount, the same studio. But Ben Stiller and company persevered, and “Zoolander 2” arrives in the winter of 2016.

And it’s taken a while: “Zoolander” came out in 2001, and “Zoolander 2” hitting next year means fifteen years between films. Directed and written by Justin Theroux, known for acting roles in films like “Mulholland Drive,” and more recently “The Leftovers,” maybe some audiences will forget he wrote “Tropic Thunder” and “Iron Man 2,” and helmed the under-appreciated indie “Dedication” starring Billy Crudup and Mandy Moore. So yes, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are back, along with a cast that includes Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Penélope Cruz, Olivia Munn, Christine Taylor, Billy Zane, Justin Bieber, and Fred Armisen, with reported appearances by Kanye West, Kim Kardashian West, and more.

There isn’t much of a synopsis yet, but story revolves around a rival modeling company that attempts to take Derek and Hansel out of the business. A few more details are revealed now that this new trailer is here. Due in theaters fairly soon, February 12, Paramount dropped the new look and you can see how well (or how poorly) the “Zoolander” humor has aged. Check it out below and let us know what you think.
