Directed by Tim Story (who made those original “Fantastic Four” movies you now actually like better than the new one), Universal‘s action buddy comedy “Ride Along” didn’t do outrageous numbers: $153 million globally ($134 million of that was Stateside grosses). But made for a relatively cheap song of $25 million, Uni’s buddy film turned a profit. And thus a franchise was born and a sequel pushed into production.
Back for part two, obviously, are the film’s main draws: the two stars Kevin Hart and Ice Cube and their entertaining dynamic. Joining Hart and Cube for “Ride Along 2,” are director Tim Story and cast members, Ken Jeong, Benjamin Bratt, Olivia Munn, Bruce McGill, Tika Sumpter, and Sherri Shepherd.
The first film centered on a security guard, Ben (Hart), who must prove himself to his girlfriend’s brother, top cop James (Cube). Ben rides along with James on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta and things go a little nutty. Written this time by Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi, not much is known about the plot except that it’s a new adventure. The question is, does it really matter? You probably just want to see these two butt heads and get into more wacky adventures. “Ride Along 2” hits theaters January 15, 2016. Watch the first trailer below.
